JIFORM inaugurates Student Executives in ESCAE University, Benin Republic

The Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) on Wednesday inaugurated the students’ membership of the organization at the University of Science Commerce And Business Administration (ESCAE), Anglophone Department, Porto Novo Campus, Benin Republic.

The association for Mass Communication students and others tagged JIFORM Club was aimed at mentoring and encouraging journalisms on campuses according to the President of JIFORM, Ajibola Abayomi. JIFORM is a global media foundation comprising over 300 journalists across the continents covering migration matters across the globe.

Speaking, Ajibola thanked the management of the school for the opportunity to share knowledge at the institution and assured the enthusiastic students of support to further develop their skills through training and international exposure.

« Consider this inauguration as a step to fulfill your aspiration to become great journalists in future. JIFORM will always be there for you as we encourage you to chorus with us advocacy against irregular migration, human trafficking and all forms of crimes associated with migration ».

« Your school has made history to have the first JIFORM Club even though there are other institutions waiting for similar opportunities in Nigeria, South America and Europe. We thank the management of ESCAE for this collaboration. Let me also state that this club offers a professional vocation opportunity to advance your chosen career in journalism and you can always count on us for support ».

« I will ensure that JIFORM design more training programmes to support your academic focus, however, you must know that the first priority is your primary assignment here. »

Dr Isaac Abiodun Ajijola, the Director of Studies ESCAE, said the school would always back every positive programme aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the students. He charged the students to be good ambassadors of the institution adding that the school would continue to work with JIFORM.

The JIFORM Club elected Chiamaka Patience, Adedamola Precious, Olorunjedalo Favour, Maina Opeyemi, Kolawole Olamide, Easter Ademola, Lawal Ademola, Inno Tochukwu as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, financial secretary and members respectively.

Chiamaka, while delivering her acceptance speech said, « it is historical that the student arm of the JIFORM is being launched here today. We are grateful and appreciate the fact that it is the beginning of a new development in the Republic of Benin for the executive members. It is a clarion call to service; we are ready to actualize the dream of the organization ».

Those in attendance included Mr Bismarck Sossa, member of JIFORM Benin Republic, Mr Stephen Kadiri and Mr Ekundayo Ololade, both lecturers in the school.

JIFORM, founded in 2018 has been organizing the annual global summit on migration. In February 25-26, 2021, the body in partnership with the Nekotech Center of Excellence, Ghana organized the maiden edition of the African Migration Summit in Accra, Ghana.

Apart from these, over 2000 journalists and stakeholders have benefited from several training programmes initiated by the media body over the years.

The JIFORM West African Migration Summit is slated for Lomé, Togo between June 22-23 while its third global summit comes up at Niagara Falls, Canada between November 29 and December 6 this year.
